Here are a few questions about the readings and video to think about before class:
- What is the link between critical thinking and information?
- Why is it so important to teach students how to fact-check and locate reliable information?
- Do you think being “digital natives” helps or hurts us?
- What does standardized testing suggest about information?
- When is accessing information not enough? What good is information if you have it but don’t know how to use it?
This are all great questions, and almost more than we can talk about in one day (as per usual)! I think the one about digital natives is particularly interesting, and I don’t know what I think about it. On the one hand, one’s status as a “digital native” often means much greater ability to find information, especially on online platforms. Yet on the other hand, digital natives often have a detachment from the ability to evaluate information sources. I think one of the articles we read touched on this.
It’s also hard for me to answer this because I am on the cusp of being a digital native.
