Parents: Mom and Dad wanted me to go to college because they never could
Community: Half my friends are in school, half my friends work, friends tried to convince me to not go to school
Hear about UM: My buddy Cameron, we've been friends since we were 6 years old, he goes to Montevallo and told me about it
Major: Enviromental Studies
Fears: Crippling debt, being in a new place and having to make new friends
Arrive?: August 2017
First Day: A little anxious
Calming Presence: When I made a social circle of familiar faces
Classes: Classes have been good, dropped 2 classes already
Residence: I live in Napier, but I'm hoping to get an apartment this summer
Clubs: Not right now, thinking about joining chess club
PV or GV: PV, more my speed
Transfer or Dropping Out: Dropping out was on the table after my first semester, but a talked to my mom and realized it would have been a bad idea
Caf: Most of the time it's good, but I've gotten sick from it
Favorite Moment: Don’t' have a favorite, each day is something new
Quirky: I've embraced it
Impact: I've gotten more responsible
Future: Spending more time with my pals and enjoying the last part of my life before I must get serious
MN: This interview was with one of my best friends on campus, so most of the things I asked about in this interview I already knew about him. That made the interview a little difficult at times for both of us because he was just repeating information that he already told me in the past. Nevertheless, I had to act like in the interview that I'd never seen this man in my life. I was able to add new questions to my interview schedule, and he responded well to them, which was a very good sign.
TN: My theory on why this interview was not as great as it could have been Is that I knew too much about him already. If it was a casual friend it would have been easier, but because he was one of my best friends I struggled mightily to find questions that I could ask him that I could get new answers that I didn’t know about him to lively up this interview. He also was not invested all the way in the interview as we were having a very stressful week of tests and projects so he was trying to finish this as fast as he could
PN: I love this guy to death, but sometimes he can get on my last nerves. He promised to do the interview with me but then he tells me to hurry up with because he has to be somewhere in 30 minutes. So, my question is obviously why you are trying to be interviewed when you clearly did not have the time to be interviewed. I was also dealing with a headache at this point in the day, so my temper was really short to begin with.
SN: He is from Clay-Chockville High School, as well as being homeschooled later in this schooling career. He wanted to go to college because he parents never could, and he yielded advice from his friends when they told him to stay. He decided to go to Montevallo because his buddy Cameron told him about it. He is an environmental science major, and his concerns about going to school dealt with debt and how we would have to meet a bunch of new people. He arrived on campus August 2017 and he said he was anxious the first day. He really found his calling though when he found a friend group. He wants to join the Chess Club and he is a die-hard PV. He lives in Napier, but he wants to get an apartment over the summer. He only considered dropping out once but his mom talked him out of it, and he had decided to embrace that and the quirkiness of the school, he has enjoyed his time here, and is looking forward to enjoying the last part of his life before he has to get serious.
