The Cow Blanket That Can't Come Off!

An advertisement sent to the Alabama College Business Manager, W.J. Bailey, for a Cow Blanket from the R. Laacke Company. There is a letter that precedes the advertisement which alludes to the fact that it is the third letter which was sent after the College requested information regarding the companies cow blankets. The letter includes a folksy story is apparently a prompt to extort a response from the Business Manager as a sales tactic.

The Alabama College at this time maintained a herd of dairy cows to supply the faculty and students needs for dairy products as the College was located in a rather remote location from services other colleges would be afforded. After the dairy grew, it even provided a source of income as the excess dairy was sold off as a source of revenue. The initial inquiry was most likely sent as part of their efforts to outfit the herd with supplies.
