This is a photograph of a man identified as Chung Ah Bard, one of the Chinese workers brought in to break the Sampson strike. The photograph was taken in approximately 1873, likely in the photography studio of William Hurd and William Smith. Here, Chung Ah Bard is dressed in traditional Chinese clothing, posed with a book and fan.
