“An Ordinance granting certain rights and
privileges to Lamont Bailey, Samuel A. Glenn,
T.W. Edmunds and their associates, constituting
the Tampa and Thonotossassa Railway
Company.”
“Be it ordained by the City Council of Tampa.
Section 1, That the city of Tampa hereby grants
unto Lamont Baily, Samuel A. Glenn and J.W.
Edmunds, and their associates constituting the
Tampa and Thonotassassa Railway company, and
to their successors and assigns, the right to build
equip, maintain and operate one or more lines or
tracks of railroad over and upon Lack, Cass,
Washington, and Whiting Streets, or over and
upon such other streets or avenues in said City of
Tampa, as such company may deem expedient,
and the right to run engines and cars upon said
railroad.”
“Section 2, That the mayor and president of the
city Council are hereby authorized and directed
in the name and on behalf of the city of Tampa,
to execute and deliver to the said Tampa and
Thonotassassa Railway Company a deed or other
written conveyance under seal of the said City of
Tampa giving, granting, and conveying unto the
said Tampa and Thonotassassa Railway Company
the exclusive right to use said railroad and
streets; and that said railroad, rails, equipment
and franchise shall be exempt from taxation of
every kind by the said city of Tampa for the
period of twenty years, provided that work on
said railway shall begin in one year and be
completed in three years. The consideration for
which these franchises are granted is five
dollars.”
“Section 3, That the said Tampa and
Thonotassassa Railway Company shall keep all
the street crossing s occupied by them in good
repair; and shall so construct their tracks,
switches and turnouts as to conform to the grade
of the streets or avenues, on which they may be
located and so as not to seriously interfere with
their use for the ordinary purpose of travel or
traffic; provided that the franchises herein
granted shall not conflict with any heretofore
granted any other railroad company.”
