Description
A handwritten letter from U.D. Franklin to future president and current business manager E.H. Wills regarding milk cans being returned to the dairy without being cleaned thoroughly. During 1927 tuberculosis was at an all time high, and the first vaccine was developed. The status of the milk cans was a worrisome issue because of the easily spreading of tuberculosis and bacteria in general. If any of the students or faculty was to consume milk from an unclean can then they could possibly contract the disease, which was deadly for humans because of the havoc it wreaks on the lungs. Tuberculosis can be spread by the passing of bodily fluids, like saliva, or it can be airborne from coughing and sneezing. If anyone on the campus would have contracted this disease from unclean milk cans then the dairy most likely would have been shut down, and at this time it was more cost efficient for the university to produce milk on site rather than having it shipped in.
