Description

The Alabama Girls’ Industrial School opened in 1896 with a faculty of six (five women and one man) and a student body of 145. During Reynolds' three years as president, he acquired 25,000 acres of public land from Congress and built the first residential wing of Main Hall. The Board of Trustees forced him to resign in 1899 due to questions about his management of public funds. Nonetheless, the school was on a solid footing after his tenure as president. Enrollment stood at 400 students. In this photograph President Reynolds is seated on the left.
