Archiving Montevallo is a project compiled by students at the University of Montevallo, which makes use of materials from the Annie Crawford Milner Archives located in the Carmichael Library. Questions about the project should be directed to Dr. John Bawden.

Montevallo is a city located in central Alabama. Its rail line to Selma and coal deposits gave it a measure of economic importance in the nineteenth century. Benefitting from its geographic position, the state legislature established a public college for women in 1896, Alabama’s Girl’s Industrial School (now, the University of Montevallo). Several antebellum buildings are located on campus which has been co-educational since 1956 and integrated since 1969.
