King House

The King Mansion, also known as Kingswood or King House, was built in 1823 by Edmund King on what is currently the campus of the University of Montevallo. King House was the first brick structure in the area and the first to feature glass windows. The two-story building is comprised of two bedrooms, a living room, and a dining room. The family cemetery is located nearby. It is now owned by the university. It has been used to host offices and classrooms and currently serves as housing for campus guests. -Laura Binford, James Englebert, Makena Kay, Christen Oswald

Orr Park

Orr Park, named after Mayor Milton Orr (1966-1972), is located on Shoal Creek in the heart of Montevallo. It is one of the cities most beloved spots for recreation, community events, picnics, birdwatching, and more. Something unique to the park is the trees which serve as pieces of art for locals and visitors to admire. Local carver Tim Tingle began his project known as Tinglewood, carving the iconic figures and faces in the trees following a storm which damaged the trees in 1993. -Brian Bufalo, Chris Culver, Gracie Sproull

Ebenezer Swamp

Ebenezer Swamp is one of very few upland hardwood swamps still around in the southeast United States. Owned by the University of Montevallo, it is home to a variety of plants and animals, such as red maples, climbing hydrangea, poison oak, poison ivy, beavers, raccoons, herons, and opossums (as well as many others). Students at the University of Montevallo conduct scientific research at the swamp for undergraduate studies, and often visit the swamp for maintenance. The viewer will see the swamp in all of its majesty, as well as a variety of statues. -Jess Gould, Victoria Gould, and Jesse Johnson
