Description

The Board of Trustees hired the Olmsted Brothers, Landscape Architects of Brookline, Massachusetts to layout the growing campus in the nineteen twenties. This is the same firm that designed the Biltmore House grounds in Asheville North Carolina as well as Central Park in New York City. Among the firms recommendations were a tree lined drive to the president’s Flowerhill residence and red brick streets to unify the whole. The aerial photograph illustrates the Olmsted design of the campus’s central courtyard.
