Description

In 1945, the Homecoming tradition included a stunt (comedy) and a dramatization (drama) skit. For 1945 the Purple stunt was called "Speak of the Devil" or "Ye Gods!", and was written by The Purple Writing Committee. In the play, Mr. Pluto tries to take over earth by making the other Gods apathetic and lazy with the help of his imps. Mercury is Zeus’ messenger and because of the imps whispering in his ear, he no longer wants to take messages all the way up to Zeus on Mount Olympus. Because Alabama College was still an all women school, a female actor is playing the male role. In the sketch, Mercury is wearing a short green dress with a gold sash and winged helmet and sandals. All the messages litter the ground around her feet.
